History
" Strawberry Creek Design Center underwent a transformation that has rippled into surrounding neighborhoods. The building, built in the early 1900s and used for decades as a furniture factory underwent an extensive renovation and retrofit. It is now home to a community of professional artists, design shops and the Berkeley Yoga Center. The building's adjoining park "used to be haven for drug dealers," says property owner Huck Rorick. "People asked us if we were going to put bars on the windows." But the presence of new tenants and a revitalized greenery for picnics and evening strolls began an evolution that turned this historic landmark into a neighborhood treasure. " -- Photo Seth Goddard
